Jim Graham of Desert Dingo Racing brought his newly-purchased 1970 Baja Bug in for a tune up and to map out some enhancements that will allow him to use it as a daily driver (140 miles a day!) and as a chase vehicle with the team heads south for the Baja 1000 in November.
We did a complete car inspection, upgraded to Swepco oil (5 quarts to accommodate the oil sump and external oil cooler) and did a complete engine tune. As a result, the car ran smoother, started easier and Jim reports he’s getting better gas mileage.
Future upgrades include a new muffler to eliminate excessive back pressure, a 15 gallon fuel tank (to replace the stock 10 gallon tank, adding sound deadening material and a full headliner and carpet set, and eventually modifying the roof rack to carry spare parts for the Baja 1000.
